Ryan Gosling has revealed that Peter Jackson fired him from The Lovely Bones because the pair disagreed on how Gosling's character should be played.

Gosling was on board to portray Jack Salmon - father of lead character Susie - and put on 60lbs especially for the part.

However, Jackson apparently disagreed with Gosling's vision for the character and removed him from the film just days before it went into production.

"We had a different idea of how the character should look," Gosling told The Hollywood Reporter. "I really believed he should be 210lbs. I was melting Häagen-Dazs and drinking it when I was thirsty!"

The part eventually went to Mark Wahlberg, but Gosling insists that he has no hard feelings over Jackson's decision.

"We didn't talk very much during the preproduction process, which was the problem," he said. "It was a huge movie, and there's so many things to deal with, and he couldn't deal with the actors individually. I just showed up on set, and I had gotten it wrong."

He joked: "Then I was fat and unemployed."
